GOLD tells the engaging tale of down-on-his-luck mining entrepreneur Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey), owner of a prospecting business, built by his grandfather but hit hard by bad luck and plummeting resources prices. McConaughey once again trades in his good looks, transforming himself to play Wells, who is willing to live out extreme highs and lows to pursue his obsession - the ultimate gold strike.

At an all time low, Wells gambles on a trip abroad to lure legendary prospector and geologist Michael Acosta (Edgar Ramirez) into a 'he who dares wins' venture in the Indonesian jungle. And the rollercoaster ride begins!

Based on the true story of the 1993 Bre-X mining scandal, the film takes as many twists and turns as the original story. Resist the temptation to read up on the history of this tale - it's more fun to just go along for the ride!

With a Golden Globe already in the bag for its original song entitled 'Gold', the StudioCanal film, directed by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan, is due for release in Australian cinemas on February 2.

As an aside - I enjoyed the screening of GOLD at The Backlot, a great little boutique screening venue nicely fitted out with bar and facilities in Simpson St, West Perth. Catering available for those special presentations. Check it out!
