Fishing, it's my husband's favourite hobby, his passion and something I just like to watch, to put it mildly.

Each weekend, I am always at a loss as to where we can go that will satisfy the needs of all of us, taking into consideration budgetary requirements and of course at the top of the list, baby requirements.

Little did I know that the Gold Coast has a hidden gem in its midst, an 800 metre sand pumping jetty located at the end of the Spit, Main Beach. It's a real eye opener for the amateur fisher, also catering for those just wanting to browse and take photos.

An entrance fee of four dollars applies to the fishing enthusiast, and as for the onlooker it's a mere two dollars to observe the absolute chaos the Jetty attracts. On a nice day the Jetty is quiet and serene, and somewhere where you can definitely relax and unwind taking in the ocean breeze. However, on a busy day, be prepared to step over a few lines and eskies and bear in mind that wind is also a common occurrence so be prepared to get a little wet and salty.

If you want to get off the ocean and onto dry land again, there are fishing spots located all around the spit and beautiful grassy areas which are the perfect location for a picnic and place for the baby to have a kick around and/or sleep. To top it off there is also an ice creamery nearby to entice the taste buds.

My new found love since having my little one is the outdoors and I have always loved the ocean. The Spit is somewhere that is enjoyable for the whole family with the ocean as your back drop. It is a breeze with a baby, as long as you are well equipped and most importantly determined to relax.
