Country Crafts & Masterpieces in Material
Mudgeeraba will be hosting The Gold Coast Craft & Quilt Fair on Sat 23 & Sunday 24 August, 2014. There will be a large display of quilts, with quilts and materials for sale, along with demonstrations and all types of crafts and hobbies, together with onsite catering. The venue is the Mudgeeraba Showgrounds and the fair is open on both days from 9am – 5pm. There will be plenty free parking. Entry is $10 pp and free for kids. The event is organised by The Rotary Club of Mudgeeraba. For more information and stall enquiries, contact Mike Neale on: 0415 592 831 or E: firstname.lastname@example.org
The quilting photos in this article were taken at the Arts Centre Gold Coast in August 2013. The variety of quilts on display was wonderful to see - the richness of colour and the individual styles were simply beautiful. There is something very personal about making and giving the gift of a quilt, as a little piece of you is in your creation. Like any hobby, quilting can take up time but quilters I have met are passionate about what they do and are the clever creators of masterpieces in material.
Don't forget to enter your vote in the People's Choice. The 2ft x 2ft Quilt Challenge is entitled "Beyond the Gold". It will be interesting to see the variety of individual interpretations of this theme.
If you are looking for a day out in the green behind the gold, combine your visit to the Mudgeeraba Craft & Quilt Fair with a drive up Springbrook or enjoy a coffee on the Sat morning at a great local coffee shop "The Mudgee Bah Expresso", which is tucked in behind the Woolworths Centre (Shop 21, 60 Railway Street). It's a gem of a place offering a relaxed atmosphere, with cakes freshly made on site that will tempt even the most determined dieter.
One of the things I love about Mudgeeraba is how it has managed to retain its village atmosphere despite being so close to the rest of the more developed areas of the Gold Coast. It's also a stone's throw to the main highway for ease of access.
