"Be prepared" is the Scout's motto and now is the time to start (if you haven't already) to prepare to take part in the events at the 37th Gold Coast Airport Marathon, held on the 4th and 5th of July 2015.

Choose your course and let's get cracking. There is an event for everyone from of course the Gold Coast Airport Marathon to the Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge and the 4km Junior Dash and the 2km Junior Dash.

Why should I enter you ask? Well, think of the accomplishment, of finishing the race, an achievement in itself, setting yourself a personal goal and not are you only getting fit, it may set you on the journey to a permanent healthy lifestyle change. Finally, it is all for a good cause. You can fundraise for the official charity Cancer Council Queensland or for a charity of your choice through the Everyday Hero fundraising website.

So get a team together, training buddy or family member and set yourself a training schedule.

The Gold Coast Marathon website has some great tips and pointers in "How to Run Gold Coast/Gold Coast Airport Marathon" . Most importantly be realistic, have fun, set yourself achievable goals, have good comfortable running shoes, hydrate and pace yourself.

Other years I have been on the other end, up at dawn helping out as a water station volunteer, handing out hundreds of cups of water to the hoards of runners passing by. My goal this year is to complete the 5.7 km, a big feat I think for me who hasn't run for years, but that is my goal and who knows I may just get to do the 10 km run. My training has started.
