Located in New York City, the Goethe-Institut is a higher learning facility of the Federal Republic of Germany. The institute promotes the teaching of the German language as well as lessons about German Culture. The center also provides information on the country and its cultural aspects.

There are various reading rooms as well as learning centers in the Goethe-Institut. The insitute holds cultural seminars for teachers of German in conjunction with the American Association of Tecahers of German (AATG). The facility is accommodating to teachers by providing teaching materials and courses at New York University.

The Goethe-Institut also has an extensive library which provides a variety of audio-visual materials as well as books and journals on German culture & society. Goethe-Institut works in coordination with 11 other North American Institutes in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Mexico City and Guadalajara.
