Island tours are good fun as you get to go on a ferry, spend sometime in a piece of land covered by water, get some good photographs and spend a fun day out in the process. Located west of Harbour bridge, off the suburb Balmain's shores is Sydney's . A small island covering 13 hectares, Goat island previously served as a sandstone quarry, convict stockade, explosives store, police station and fire station. Today, it is managed as a hertige park by Sydney Harbour National Parks and it organizes tours and trips to visit the island.

Bookings are essential to go on tours and that can be done through the Cadman's Cottage Centre. Tours covers the various places of interest within the island like the sandstone quarry, the Queens Gunpowder Magazine, grisly relics of 's convict origins remains,a seat carved out of stone by Charles Anderson, who was sentenced to be tied to the rock for two years and scratchings made in the guardhouse by bored sentries. Longer tours, stretching till late evening also allow tourists to bring in a picnic basket and watch the city light up as the sun goes down.

In recent years has been the venue for quite a few rock shows. New Year Eve fireworks are also best viewed from Goat island and there are many tours arranged to cover the event.
The upcoming tours for are scheduled for 22nd November 2009 with 2 tours of 60 persons capacity each. Bookings are still open, so call the Cadman's Cottage Centre to book your seat before they are all filled.
