Forget the U-S-A, Surf the A-U-S
With summer well and truly upon us, what better way to beat the heat than taking a break and hitting the surf along Victoria's Bellarine and Surf Coast. With some of the nations most spectacular beaches with locations for everyone from beginners to even the most seasoned surfer. ,

The region is considered Australia's home of surfing with beaches from Ocean Grove through to 13th, Torquay and Lorne providing great locations for those new to the sport. Nearby Bells Beach is even home to the Bells Ripcurl Pro, a key event on the pro surfing calender, with world champions such as Layne Beachley, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and even Kelly Slater taking out the title.

Operating out of the area are numerous qualified instructors and lesson operators who provide lessons and boards. These surf lessons are available to individuals as well as groups. Go Ride a Wave are one of the leading providers, operating out of Anglesea, Torquay, Lorne and Ocean Grove and from as little as $65 can teach you all the basic surf skills you need to know. Further packages are available at an extra cost, including multiple and more complex lessons, board and wetsuit hire, and even optionally private lessons for a more personal experience. Go Ride a Wave also boast that over their 25 years of operation, they have a 90% success rate of teaching clients to stand up in their FIRST lesson.

Be aware however, these surf lesson operators are often busy, particularly during the warmer months, so early bookings are generally required. During summer the beach is also crowded, so remember to be careful of others and obey the instructions of the surf teachers and life guards and remember to surf outside of the blue flags to ensure you don't accidently injure any swimmers. Don't forget to stay hydrated and take plenty of sunscreen as the sun can be blistering at times over the summer months.

Learn to Surf today!

If you want to give surfing a crack without the assistance of these instructors but are lacking a board, never fear! The coast is littered with board hire suppliers such as Murf's in Ocean Grove and Torquay Surfing Academy.

Try something new and hit the surf today.
