At first glance there doesn't seem to be too much about 'the pines'. Big space with trees, dirt tracks and a lot of rubbish right? For those that dare venture beyond the main strips there is a whole host of fun to be found.

The Pines covers an area larger than central suburban Perth - North past Yanchep and East to Bullsbrook, and within that area is a haven for big toys - 4x4s, motorbikes, buggies and more. No other place in Perth can offer big sand hills, muddy bogs, rock crawling and track driving in the one place.

On the weekend, the main stretches are buzzing with the sounds of drivers pushing their machines, but go further in and there is plenty of peace and serenity to be found.

The Pines is more than just an off road playground - large sand mines make perfect sand-boarding dunes and through the winter the mud bogs are great - messy - fun for skim-boarders.
Dogs just seem to absolutely love the place, heaps of open land and smells for them to explore.

There is plenty of tranquillity about the place too. Driving around the deeper areas is a great way to relax. The smell of the pine trees, colour of the bushes and kangaroos galore give you a great sense that you've somehow driven back in time.
The occasional rusty car wreck can offer some really intriguing photo opportunities and really pushes home that 'old west' feeling.

Its pretty easy to get lost out here with literally hundreds of tracks of varying sizes going off in every direction. Getting lost is quite fun too, it's a blast testing your navigational skills to find a way out. No matter how lost you get, there is always a main track just around the corner, so no need to worry too much if you go off course.

For anyone who likes testing their nerve - driving into the depths of the Pines can be a hair raising experience. At night time, the Pines becomes a very claustrophobic, isolated place, the wind whistling eerily through the trees can be very harrowing. Even the toughest of people will have to hide an ounce of concern. If you don't like being in these situations sticking to the main tracks in daylight is always a safe bet.
