Devouring rich chocolate treats in the cosy
in South Yarra is the perfect way to spend a chilly evening.
Walking into Gânache is overwhelming. There are a mind boggling amount of bite-size chocolatey treats on display. Besides that they also have cakes and an extensive range of box chocolates. Be prepared to spend awhile poring over the menu, as all of the choices look so tempting.
Unfortunately, you can't eat all of them in one visit, but I tried as many as possible by ordering the
chocolate platter, a selection of four pralines accompanied by a macaron. Each of the treats was perfectly crafted and tasted delicious. While they were very small, they were so richly chocolatey that it was sufficient.
My friend ordered the
triple mousse, a slice with three layers of slightly different flavoured mousse - all chocolate, of course. Just like the rest of their patisserie treats, it was $7.90.
It was difficult to choose just one hot drink from a selection that included concoctions such as mint, orange cointreau and chilli flavoured hot chocolates. Playing it safe on our first visit, my friend and I opted for classic hot chocolates. The drinks were so overpoweringly chocolate flavoured that they were difficult to drink - neither of us managed to finish. Expect to alternate sips of your hot chocolate with the complimentary water.
With full table service, the staff at Gânache are friendly and helpful, and quite happy to make recommendations on what to order. The luxurious interior of the store made the entire experience as decadent as their delicious pralines. Combined with their generous opening hours, Gânache is the perfect place to stop for a late-night hot chocolate fix.
The rich chocolate at Gânache is matched by their prices - be prepared to spend over $15 for a hot drink and a sweet treat from the patisserie.
