It seems that every second person is now into gluten free food. It used to be just coeliacs or those with a diagnosed gluten intolerance but a lot of people are now going gluten free because it is better for their health.

The popular paleo diet has also had a lot to do with this. While strictly it doesn't allow grains its battle cry is loud and clear that it is the gluten in a number of our grains that is the real culprit.

You can now buy a few gluten free products at a number of cafes and supermarkets however such goods are still limited.

So that a totally gluten free bakery is something of a wonderment. And it's receiving comments like:
"Thank you. This is the first time I have been able to eat a jam doughnut in decades!"

and
"Thank You Gluten Free4 U, my 9 year old daughter is a coeliac and absolutely loving eating her way through your enormous range of yummy gluten free food.... such as quiches, lemon tarts, sausage rolls, tortillas, and bread rolls. It is so lovely to take her somewhere where she can pick anything and be sure that it is certified gluten free. Great job guys!"

Gluten Free4 is not a new store to Melbourne as there has been one in Moorabbin for a while now but they have just opened up a sister store in the Eastern suburbs. It is in Kew at 1345 Burke Road.

Everything here is gluten range and such a range. They make a huge number of cakes such as black forest and cheesecake as well as banana and fruit breads. Great huge trays of muffins, Italian biscotti, cookies, tarts, apple pies, pizza bases, cheese and bacon scrolls, apple pies and garlic bread are just some of the options alongside all the great bread.

All the things you expect from a good baker.

They even do chocolate eclairs.

While each product is different they have done a lot of experimenting with options such as rice flour, tapioca flour and potato starch.

The nice thing is that their products are nut free as well. They also have some dairy free and fructose friendly options available as well.

This would be a great place to get stuff for birthday parties as well as there is all the fare that your child would be able to eat such as a birthday cake, party pies and sausage rolls.

If you don't live near Moorabbin or Kew they do deliver to metropolitan Melbourne although you need to order over $80 worth. Most things are freezable.

Although I must say I like the comment by a dietician I read in my local paper which was something like: "It's gluten free, not glutton free." Pity about that folks.

But I wouldn't blame anyone for breaking out for awhile if you have previously been on a restrictive diet due to gluten intolerance as you can now have a world with chocolate eclairs, pancake mix and jam doughnuts.
