With the rise in food sensitivities and childhood allergies, gluten free diets are becoming increasingly popular. In response to this trend,
The Gluten Free Food Expo is now running over two days. There will be many educational speakers, including Dr Sue Shepherd discussing
Food Labeling and Michel Lawler discussing
Is it Coeliac or is it gluten intolerance?
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, malts and possibly oats. This means that many breads and pastas are off limits to those with a gluten intolerance. Luckily, many rice pastas and corn breads are readily available in our local supermarkets.
The Gluten Free diet is the only medically accepted long term treatment for Coeliac Disease, which explains why
Coeliac Queensland are presenting the event. At The Gluten Free Food Expo you can learn how to cook with gluten alternatives, such as corn, potato, amaranth, quinoa, rice and tapioca. As you would expect, the food stalls will offer gluten free delicacies like caramel coated popcorn and sweet potato, rosemary, brie and onion jam pizza.
Head along the the expo and you might be surprised to find some rather yummy surprises.
