Gold Coast Explorer since Jan 2010. Always on the lookout for fun, family things to enjoy with my four kids.
Time to Shine
The third annual GLOW event, at the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct, will take place on Saturday 30 April 2016. It's based around Evandale Lake, outside the Arts Centre Gold Coast and is on from 5 – 10pm.
The evening offers a very different sensory experience, with its variety of light based installations and activities that also provide opportunities for nighttime photography. For families, the draw card is that it's lots of fun and it's free. It really is an amazing and unique night out. Enjoy something to eat underneath the stars, as the lights cascade over the water during the laser show.
It's luminosity at its best. The popular Glow Yoga is back and as much fun to watch, as it is to take part. There will also be Tai Chi. Illuminated art installations will showcase Bond & Griffith Uni projects and the open air cinema will feature work by emerging artists in animation, design, web, mobile, games and audio, as well as short films from In The Bin and The Gold Coast Film Festival. There's a laser water show and giant telescopes will provide the chance to star gaze.
The Glow street food precinct will be set up and there is a great line up of local bands including Cheap Fakes, LS Philosophy, Aquila Young, Jackson James Smith and Crown the Humble.
New this year is extreme virtual reality, providing a 360 degree fully immersive experience, allowing you to hike Mount Everest, swim with the sharks and ride a real roller coaster.
Parking will be limited at the Arts Centre so it might be best to park at the Bruce Bishop Car park, or ride the G:link (Gold Coast Light Rail) to Surfers Paradise, and catch the free water shuttle from the Cavil Avenue Pontoon to the event. A night ride on the water, with the lights of Surfers as a backdrop, would round off what promises to be an illuminating evening.
