Tullio Rossi gives his speech at the opening of Global Oceans

The exhibition 'Global Oceans' was opened at the historic Hahndorf Academy on March 25 by Tullio Rossi, marine biologist, graphic designer and award-winning animator. Here is one of his videos:

Tullio described in his speech the importance of linking art with science, which is exactly what he does with his videos, and it is also one of the essential aspects of this exhibition.

Global Oceans is the second Adelaide International Print Exchange to be exhibited at the Hahndorf Academy. The first exhibition took place in 2015. The theme for that exchange and exhibition was Winged Messengers, and 29 printmakers took part. This time there are 49 printmakers, from all over Australia and from across the Globe, as well as a local photographer and diver, Alexius Sutandio.

In a print exchange, every contributor receives a selection of prints from everyone else. Quite apart from the fun of taking part, the main purpose of this exchange is to strive for the highest artistic standards in printmaking, as one or more prints from every single edition are for sale, for just $85. There are also larger prints on display, framed and unframed, by artists, both local and interstate, who regularly depict the sea and its wonderful inhabitants.

The second, and equally important aim of Global Oceans is to raise funds for the preservation of our marine environment. Many of these prints are not merely beautiful images of marine environments: they also contain subtle messages that remind us of the fragility as well as the frightening power of our oceans. 100% of the profits from the first sale of each print will be donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society. Each exchange print costs just $85.00.
