If you are visiting the Gold Coast or even if you are a local heading into Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach, it can become very costly if you have to pay for parking. That is why the new light rail system on the Gold Coast, known as the G-Link is the perfect way to get around.

'The G', as it is affectionately known by locals, opened in mid 2014. With 16 stations starting at the Gold Coast University Hospital and running as far south as Pacific Fair Shopping Centre at Broadbeach it is really easy to get to where you want to go. And with an extension to run to Helensvale Railway Station planned for 2018, getting around will become even easier.

Ticket prices are very reasonable and you can either purchase a Go-Card which you can use on trains and buses or buy a ticket on the platforms. Running times vary, but generally you don't have to wait longer than 10 minutes for a tram to arrive.

There is plenty of room in the carriages if you have a surfboard or push bike and the seats are comfortable and the trams are always clean. There are plenty of staff available to help you if you need assistance.

These are the best stations for these local attractions:-

Southport is the best stop if you want to go to Australia Fair Shopping Centre, China Town or the beautiful Broadwater Parklands which boast a fantastic kids playground as well as being the venue for markets and concerts especially on the weekends.

Main Beach Get off here if you want to check out the upmarket shops and restaurants. It is only a short walk to the beach from here as well.

Cavill Mall is the heart of Surfers Paradise. You will want to get off here to check out the iconic Surfers Paradise beach or to find yourself a coffee or a bite to eat. Cavill Mall is also party central so there are plenty of night time venues here to choose from.

Broadbeach North is the best station to get off at if you are going to the Gold Coast Convention Centre or you can take a short stroll to Jupiters Casino.

Broadbeach South is the last stop on the line and where you will want to get off if you fancy a spot of shopping at Pacific Fair. Pacific Fair is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar makeover with many new shops and restaurants already open.
