Glenelg Spices Restaurant

Now, I'm not a huge fan of Thai food. Weird, I know... but something inside me just disagrees with it. So it was with huge reluctance that I trotted along to Glenelg Spices for dinner on Thursday night.
And boy, am I glad I did!
To begin with, the restaurant is conveniently located on Jetty Road in Glenelg, tucked away between a Korean Barbecue restaurant and another retail shop. There is also a sushi bar inside that you can access from the restaurant. The decor is simple but elegant for a small shop - red light glows from the roof and there is a small bar at the end. I would recommend booking if you have a large table or go on a weekend, as there is limited space. The tables are set simply but well and the staff are absolutely brilliant - it is one of my pet peeves when staff wander around the table waiting for you to snatch the plate out from your unsuspecting nose, but these staff members were polite and respectful.
Now- the food! The menu has a HUGE range, specialising in Thai and Malaysian cuisine, and there are many dishes including several vegetarian dishes. A large amount of the menu is naturally gluten free so it is easy to find a nice meal even if you have allergies. My mother and I shared some spring rolls for entrée which were excellent, they came out reasonably fast and were very tasty.
We elected to share mains, as they are large dishes that can easily be shared between two people. After much deciding (because everything on the menu sounds truly amazing...) we ordered a Masman curry and Pad Thai noodles. The curry came with steamed rice and both dishes were beautifully presented. The dishes were both on point - the curry was mild as we had requested but still not bland, and the Pad Thai noodles had plenty of prawns and chicken and vegetables to keep us satisfied. I can truly say that this is Thai food at it's best. Staff are very accommodating and helpful if you need anything at all. The restaurant also does takeaway so it's perfect for a mid-week meal or just to drop in - they're very knowledgeable and can provide great suggestions of what to eat if you're a bit overwhelmed!
With prices ranging from about $5-9 for an entree and $12-25 for a main, it's not only affordable but great quality for what you pay. So what are you waiting for? Time to (Glenelg) spice up your life!
