I knew this was going to be an interesting walk as three rainbow lorikeets landed in the tree next to my parking spot.

This 800-metre road travels in an 'L' shape between Hawthory and Mt. Dandenong Roads.

Red attracts the eye and the many bottlebrushes and grevilleas did just that, both in gardens and as street trees.

Azaleas seem to be at their peak colour wise and enhanced many a garden. A Chinese lantern bush and patch of nasturtiums added to the colourful enjoyment of this walk.

Of more subtle colourings were a small-flowered rockrose and fairy fan flower, both making nice low growing ground covers. Several lilac bushes were in full flower as were several lavender bushes.

Several crows were about, revealing their presence by their raucous crow calls.

Spring brings out a great range of flowers. A patch of Lady Banks rose was attractive as was an Indian hawthorn plant. Two different colours of clivia plants in the same garden made a nice contrast.

A single stem of a red rose stood tall in one garden looking very photogenic against a mute background.

This was a street of many garden ornaments, with one garden having numerous. A blue lizard, a scarf-wearing cocky, a blue-eyed cat and a little ducky was just four of many in the aforementioned garden.

A garden lamp, a bright red mailbox and a tiger sitting on a fence post were other interesting garden displays.

Colourful flowers continued to appear in the shape of a bird of paradise and a yellow flag flower. A lilac tree and a coral bells plant added to the floral bonanza of this road.

Part way along the O'Shannassy Pipe trail crosses Glen Dhu Road It is a popular walking path for man, woman and beast. I was surprised, and pleased, to see a horse on this walk.

Apart from the aforementioned horse, many other forms of transport were seen. Leg power, pedal power and a battery-powered wheelchair.

Two other forms of transport were in gardens, a penny-farthing bicycle and a wheelbarrow.

Another form of escape was a group of jasmine cascading over a high wooden fence.

Wisteria was in full bloom with its multitude of hanging wines. Many lilies were around, many planted in shady areas which makes their white petals stand out.

Many newly established garden beds were starting to fill out flower wise including one built into the mailbox. Many daisies were flowing including the colourful gazania.

A spotted dove and a magpie were caught sitting on overhead wires, while a couple of noisy miners preferred a tree and a fence.

It's a well-established area and several picket fences were host to overgrown bushes, shrubs and trees.

Spring is an ideal time for a street walk if admiring flowers is your forte.
