Just an hour from Sydney's centre lies Gledswood Homestead – a farm complete with a winery, heritage gardens, a grand ballroom and several function rooms that have been the setting for many a wedding celebration. Family fun days, 4 times a year, introduce you to country life and the workings of this farm.
The next fun day is coming up on 15 April and promises a great day out with entertainment for both young and old in this historic setting in Gledswood Hills. This authentic colonial farm with many of its Georgian-style buildings from the 1800's will first see you enjoying its farm day activities at the Stockman's Camp. Here you meet the drover and listen to his stories whilst having billy tea and damper by the campfire. Afterwards, you can take in Australian farming history, seeing the kelpies rounding up the sheep and the drover in action sheering a sheep. You'll also learn about wool classing, whip cracking and boomerang throwing.
At the cellar door, listen to some live music whilst enjoying a craft beer or a boutique Australian wine. If you want to learn more about wines then you might want to take the wine tasting masterclass, just see the friendly bar staff who will book you in.
Market stalls await your browsing and to satisfy your hunger grab some lunch from one of the food vendors onsite or bring a picnic and relax on the lawns.
Entry to this fun farm day is $5 per person and is capped at $20 per family/car. It is recommended you pre-purchase your tickets online as this is a popular event. Gates open at 10am and there is a limit of 500 cars. Once the maximum is reached, the gates will close.
It's a fantastic day out in the sunshine before the weather gets too cold but if you can't make this one in April, don't despair as there are two more for the year on 15 July and 7 October.
