Heavenly.

In these strange COVID times, getting away needs some thought and careful consideration. Is it safe, can we reach our destination and come back?

Mercifully Queensland is mostly open for business and so we decided to venture out to an area we have been meaning to explore for a while - The Glasshouse Mountains.

I found the perfect accommodation and for all of you nature lovers out there, I cannot recommend this more highly, especially now in early spring. The place we stayed in is called the and it is conveniently at the foot of Mount Tibrogargan. It is just over an hour's drive from Brisbane on the Bruce Highway and here is the website for it .

I booked to stay in one of the train carriages because we love them. We were delighted to hear that the owner of the property, Keith Murray, had salvaged four of them and a church from destruction and having slotted them in place on his property, he then set about planting a splendid and varied garden, which he amusingly calls the Garden of Eaten.

We sat on the little patio outside our railway carriage and were intoxicated by the scent of the citrus bloom. We looked out of the windows and saw mulberry bushes full of fruit and coffee bushes with fruit in various colours. We strolled in the garden and came across unusual trees and bushes, all of which Keith has carefully identified in his book entitled The Garden of Eaten. There is humour but also an abiding sense of care of nature and attention to ecology and sustainability and for those of you who are concerned about these issues, this makes a welcome and lovely visit. He also has a bush tucker walk on the premises and beyond that a dragon fruit plantation. The birds outside our windows were varied and plentiful; the eastern whip bird, fig birds, kookaburras and cockatoos. It's the one noise you will happily wake up to.

There are carriages which are designated lounges or refectories, so if you want to make your own dinner, you are able to. Keith can provide a lovely breakfast for a very good price if you want as well.
There is a sense of privacy but also communality to this beautiful property which deserves your attention. It is a stone's throw from most of the Glasshouse Mountains ,which I will explore in another article.

It really is a bit of a treasure and we will be back to explore it more at a different time of year, as it has so much to offer.
