Never take yourself too seriously when drinking a cocktail
Bret Easton Ellis is one of North America's most famous authors. He penned such literary classics as American Psycho, Less Than Zero and Glamorama. Yes, this Fitzroy cocktail hub is named after a novel that parodies the glitz and glamour of American nightlife.
As you'd expect, Glamorama comes from the same group behind the Prahran bar Less Than Zero, but I highly doubt we'll be seeing an American Psycho venue any time soon. Mind you, you never know…
First thing to know about Glamorama is not to take anything too seriously. Especially the decor. Glamorama is a place to share dinner with friends, slip on your dancing shoes and just have a damn good time. Between the naked mannequins looming above to the ethereal, mystic mural, this place is a laugh.
Music tastes in Glamorama hover around the smooth, electronic beats with funky bass lines for your dancing shoes. The European-style menu is currently being updated so expect some fresh new dishes soon.
The back-bar here is spectacular. There's over 400 bottles of premium spirits available and the staff are aiming to hold every Australian whisky possible. Right now, they have 260 whiskys, 38 of which are Australian. As for favourites, A Life Less Ordinary stands out as a twist on the classic sour. Once Upon A Time in Burn City is also a hit, with a wonderful umami taste and capsicum salt rim.
The bar tenders fit the theme – talented, funny and here to have a good time. They can whip more or less anything you'd like, with a few personal tricks up their sleeve.
Glamorama is juggling dinner venue, late night cocktails and dance floor and it's handling it well. The team are dedicated to providing a quality venue with a kooky twist. Bring some friends and make a night of it.
