Most of us have probably been to Victor Harbor, but how many had actually explored its surrounding regions? The Fleurieu Peninsula region is full of hidden gems that not a lot of people know about. One of these is the .

Also known as Selwyn's Rock, the was first discovered by geologist ARC Selwyn in 1859. Selwyn was engaged by the South Australian government to survey the colony, and among his discoveries was this large ice-transported boulder. Embedded in glacial sediments, the hard rock surface had been grooved and scratched by ice movement across the Fleurieu Peninsula between Victor Harbor and Inman Valley many million years ago.

The is a significant geological site in South Australia, which has attracted geologists from all over the world. In the 1900s, Dr Albert Terrones from the University of Mexico declared this landmark boulder to be one of the world's largest glacial exposures!

I would encourage you to check out the next time you're in the Fleurieu Peninsula region. It can be found just 14 kilometres from Victor Harbor, at the corner of Inman Valley Road and Mount Alma Road in Inman Valley. A flight of stairs will lead you right down to where the boulder is. But, if you prefer not to climb down and up the stairs, a viewing platform is available for you to see the boulder from above.

There is also a cosy little European-style cafe onsite which serves delicious Belgian waffles. These waffles are one of the best I've tasted. Made to order, they have a perfectly crisp and golden exterior while still being very light, fluffy and airy on the inside. You can choose from a variety of toppings including ice cream and homemade hot chocolate sauce! Of course, I chose to have my waffle with the homemade hot chocolate sauce, and it was just so smooth and beautiful. Belicious also serves a lot of other homemade food such as apple strudel, chocolate mousse, coconut rocks, fruit bread, and quiches. But, their specialty remains the egg and bacon waffle, which I'll be trying next time I'm at the .
