I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

A reason to get together with the girls which boys can't diss
Girl's night in

What's your favourite girl's night in? Is it sitting together watching a few romantic movies? Maybe sipping champagne then heading out for a night on the town? Or simply sitting having a chinwag over a cup of tea? The options are endless, however they should have one common ground: to raise money to help beat women's cancers.

Girls night in
Light a candle and have a great night with the girls.

October is the month set aside by Cancer Council Queensland to raise funds for this worthy cause. It is an opportunity to get together with girlfriends to raise the much needed funds for research into women's cancers. Your event doesn't have to be extravagant - just have a few friends around to your house or meet at a restaurant for dinner, or go all out and host a lavish event. Simply register your event online at www.girlsnightin.com.au. The website has some great suggestions for the occasion, and some great downloadable invites, posters and event checklists if you need them.

girls movies
A simple option is a movie night with friends.

Some of the ideas you might consider are: an auction party where you have fun selling off your unwanted treasures and those of your guests; a dinner party or dress-up dinner where you share the workload and invite other guests to contribute to the cooking; a clothes swap where you invite your friends to bring their unwanted clothes to trade with each other; a pamper session where you can indulge yourselves in a night of pampering by giving each other facials, manicures, pedicures and massages.

cup of tea
A cup of tea with friends is always an option.

Just remember to register your event online and hold it anytime in October. Registering will set up your fundraising page so that you can send guests messages and let them see your fundraising goals and totals. You can also use the page to share your event on facebook and twitter. There is even a downloadable pink ribbon app which will help you to track your fundraising on the go. After the event, make sure that you bank all of your collections before 17 November to be in the running for some great prizes.

The Girls Night In is an initiative of the Queensland Cancer Council

So what are you waiting for? What better excuse do you need to get together with your friends? Register now to raise funds for women's cancer - who knows maybe the funds will help you or someone close to you in the future.
