The Gingerbread House has fast become a symbol of Christmas all over the world, including Australia, having been adopted from the European tradition. And what great news for all who love seeing these houses decorated in the most delicious manner - Gingerbread Village by Epicure is back for 2018. This year it has a new home at the Riverside Gallery at Federation Square, it opens December 1st and closes on December 24th, 2018. It is open every day from 9 am until 8.15 pm.
An initiative by the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation (RCHF), together with EPICURE, the Gingerbread Village raised $25,700 last year to help sick children. This year is the seventh year of its existence and promises to be the best one yet. Once again the RCHF are hoping to raise money to support the work of the Royal Children's Hospital.
It's not just traditional gingerbread houses that are on display. The Gingerbread Village EPICURE's award-winning Executive Pastry Chef, Deniz Karaca, and his team have created iconic Melbourne landmarks such as Luna Park, Brighton Beach Boxes and the MCG as well as traditional gingerbread houses. To do this they have used 500kg of gingerbread, 360kg of royal icing, 150kg of marzipan and approximately 800 miniature trees to bring this magical Gingerbread Village to life.
