If the festive season has you feeling like smashing a gingerbread house, this event is for you! Away from the stress of shopping for gifts and attending traditional christmas events, comes an evening dedicated to the
demolition of a gingerbread house for charity .
A large, entirely edible and purpose-built gingerbread house created by chief baker for this year, Ngoc Le, founder of
Dessert Parlour and co-creator of the 'macaronut', will be destined for demolition on the night. For those lucky enough to win a place on the demo crew, suitable smashing implements will be provided. All others attending have the pleasure of
watching this spectacle take place and will then get the chance to pick up the pieces, and take home as much delicious gingerbread as they can carry.
As well as the main event, delicious foodstuffs are included in your ticket price, there will be drinks on arrival, and a bar (including gingerbread cocktails!) that will be fully stocked all night. Street artist, Sir Circle will be creating wonka-esqe works of art for the night, there will also be live music from three amazing Melbourne music acts, including vocal swing band
Lady Midnight . You may also wish to put down a bid for some of the fabulous auction items including: flying lessons in a single-propeller plane from Pearson Aviation, two nights at the Mantra Lorne resort, a $500 General Assembly education voucher, fringes leather handbag from 'bok by narella' and bespoke pieces of art.
All auction proceeds, raffle tickets and a portion of the ticket price will go to Save the Children Australia. This years event will be going to support Save the Children's cubbies program in Fitzroy which urgently needs funding to stay open.
The Cubbies program provides a much-needed safe space for children, where they can play together, make art, learn to cook, dance, play sport or music and make cubby houses. Youth workers are there to offer guidance and support and the program makes a huge difference to children's lives.
So by attending this adults-only event, which is entirely juvenile in nature, you are helping the cubbies program ensure that some Melbourne kids have the space to just be children. Have a night off the Christmas rush and enjoy at this fantastic event. The will be held on Saturday 10th December at
1000 pound bend from 7pm. Tickets are limited so 'run, run as fast as you can' to the
website to order yours before they run out, like a gingerbread man...although I'd be running too if my house was being demolished.
