Future-pop duo Ginger and the Ghost have been making waves in the Australian music industry with their beautiful combination of visual elements and musical talents.

Having recently released their single - Kindred Spirits - as of July 25, the video clip features gorgeous views of the Australian wilderness and DIY costumes that are bound to be attention-grabbing. Having successfully played shows at SXSW and The Great Escape, and enjoying multiple #1 's on Hype Machine, the duo are only going higher in their success ladder.

Singles like Glow and Kindred Spirits are all about finding a deep connection around one's purpose in their lifetime and finding the balance that makes true soulmates flourish in all their glory.

I was lucky enough to have an e-interview set up with Missy (one-half of Ginger and the Ghost) - have a read of our chat below:

Tema: How did the duo - Missy & Daniel - meet and decide on creating Ginger and the Ghost?
Missy: I was about to make a solo project, and Daniel and I had been seeing each other for a long while, so I asked him to come with in with me to see what happened. It was a crazy thing, because if we didn't gel making music together we might lose the music and a relationship. Fortunately for us, we appreciated each other's musical sentiments and my voice and his guitar began the journey for us.

Tema: How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard of you prior?
Missy: I hope they feel like it's fresh, I hope they are affected and that they wanna put it on repeat!

Tema: What inspired the lyrics and the video to the song Kindred Spirits?
Missy: Majestic landscapes and nature always inspire our musical sounds and visuals but for the lyrics I used my nieces and friends as the catalyst. Having a kindred spirit in your life means you don't have to speak, you already know! And I write from a point of view where it's like one entity is being born into two people. Musically we wanted a weird bright tropical ceremony of sounds!

Tema: Are there any artists in the music industry who you would say have been your sources of inspiration in creating your own identity as Ginger and the Ghost?
Missy: %%There's many music artists to inspire us but our influences that help shape our identity and especially for the upcoming album are mostly multi-disciplinary artists and performers, a few off the top of our heads are Vali Myers (RIP), Yinshadowz, Elena Stonacker,
Husmanntschaeni, Richard Hart, Erik Bergrin, Camille Walala, Appetite For Decoration. You'll see a lot of influencers pop up on our Instagram.  We've been lucky enough to collaborate with most of these artists, within our live performance, art, music and film clips. We have some exciting responsive art projects with most of these guys so the influences are becoming a part of the identity too I guess!%%

Tema: How did you decide on the name Ginger and the Ghost?
Missy: It's a story, a journey, a mythology. Everything always comes back to stories, you know. Ancient dreamings, all of which we are fascinated by.

Tema: How did you come up with the video concept for your song Kindred Spirits? How did you get the team together to create the video - the visuals, the choreography, the setting, etc?
Missy: %%All of the creatives involved are friends from THE NEST CREATIVE SPACE in Sydney that Daniel and I founded.  There are 35 artists renting studios there so it's a breeding ground for collaboration. We all cross pollinate our projects in there so this was one where we brought in basically half of the artists to work on it. We're all good friends so it's an honour to have them all as collaborators.
%%
Tema: What do you hope your listeners experience through your music?
Missy: Inspiration.

Tema: How do you feel about touring - what are the challenges and benefits of being on the move?
Missy: %%It's all positive!!!! Travel means we write more, learn more, and make new friends and connections.  The challenges for us are finding places to work from whilst on the road and staying focused, making sure we are keeping day to day projects back home moving
forward. It's easy to get swept up in the moments, So making time to work each day on our computieeess is important!%%

Tema: It's pretty ingenious how you bring together your talents of visual art and music - do you tend to create a sense of consistency of bringing those two elements in all your musical works or do you like to mix things up - simplistic in some cases, futuristic / multi-dimensional in others?
Missy: We take each project as it comes, we have an aesthetic and I am an obsessive mood board freak which comes from being an art director, so I guess this is something we always come back to when we start working on a new song or performance etc.

Tema: What is your most favourite project (song / video) to date and why?
Missy: All of them! Too hard to choose.

Tema: Is there anything else that you'd like our readers / your fans to know about Ginger and the Ghost?
Missy: We have lots of magic coming out soon! Can't wait to show you all!
