The Queen of Australian Country Music Acoustic Show
Australian country music royalty, Gina Jeffreys is returning to Brisbane on her Beautiful Tangle Tour and will be performing an acoustic show on 2 July 2022 at the Redlands Performing Arts Centre.

Gina Jeffreys is a multi-award-winning Country Music singer and is credited with being the first female in the history of Australian Country Music to achieve platinum record sales and sell-out shows across the nation.

On her latest tour, which brings her to Brisbane, she will be performing songs from her new album Beautiful Tangle as well as her favourite hits.

I asked Gina to tell us a little more about the upcoming tour.

1. Your upcoming tour and new album is called Beautiful Tangle. I think the word tangle can resonate with a lot of people after the events of the last couple of years. What inspired the name for you?

Beautiful Tangle is taken from a lyric in one of my songs called Unravel – in the chorus it says "There's a tie between your heart and mine, and it's grown so strong over time, bound together wherever we travel, our beautiful tangle we can't unravel."

It was written before the pandemic about a difficult time, but now I see how it resonates for all of us feeling so united having been through such a major deal and it reminds me how we are all really the same because no matter what walk of life we are from, it has had such a profound effect on each and every one of us. We are all in this together.

Everyone's life can be a bit of a mess, but it's the tangled bits that can sometimes keep us together and make us stronger.

2. How would you describe the new material?
My new songs on the new album are just a really raw and honest look inside my life. From songs about how I believe we should all just do what makes us happy "Do That" to a song about me touring with Johnny Cash.

There's a song about our son when he hit that age where girls started to notice him and how I didn't like it that much! LOL (I'm used to it now!) called "Chase the Girls" and the most personal song I've ever written about losing a baby called "Milestones".

Making the album Beautiful Tangle was really a bit self-indulgent where I turned away from trying to be commercial or trying to be anything really to just being honest!

Unfortunately, it came out just as the pandemic hit and we didn't get to tour it like we were hoping. Like so many other artists we were all gifted a gap year where we spent a lot of time soul searching and writing new songs so I have a few new songs to play as well.

"My Old Friend" is one of these new songs and is my most recent single. It's a song I wrote and recorded with my beautiful old friend Tania Kernaghan that was born on a zoom call drinking wine and talking about how no amount of time or distance can affect the really special friendships!

Tania and I also have a brand new song coming out called "Champagne" (also born on a zoom call – well you know what we were doing!) Coming out soon. I'll sing this for the first time at Redlands!

3. This time the tour is an acoustic show. What made you decide to take this approach and style?

We are touring with the acoustic band because I just love the intimacy of it. You really get to hear every word. I love to talk and tell stories and include the audience. We just love it to feel like you are over at our house sitting around the lounge having a few drinks and playing a few songs!

4. You have been a real trailblazer for women in country music in Australia. It must be great to be back out on the road continuing to create new milestones.

Thanks so much for the "Trail Blazer" compliment. It feels great to be back out on the road. We've really missed it. I think the thing that happened for so many of us during the lockdown was we got used to staying home in tracksuit pants and ugg boots and almost lost the nerve to be confident in our workplace no matter what it is you do.

So to stand back up on a stage and get to sing and see people's faces is such a joy and an honour. I will never take it for granted again! Anyone who gets to do what they love is blessed and I am so truly grateful – like never before really – that you guys come out to the shows – coz I know you all got used to staying home too!

But how good is it to be back with live music no matter which side of the stage you are sitting!

I believe live music is just so good for our souls

Excellent Gillian. Didn't know much about Gina before - Certainly didn't realise she was a trailblazer.
