Located along O’Connell Street in North Adelaide, Gin Long Canteen specialises in Asian cuisine covering a good variety of cuisines. Specials are available for those looking for something different from the menu offerings.

The chargrilled chicken in the Pomegranate Chicken had succulent flesh, and the skin was nicely crisped up. Sweet tamarind sauce gave the dish a sweet flavour with a hint of tanginess. Pomegranate seeds supplied a burst of sweetness. A topping of micro greens completed the dish.

We liked that the slices of beef in the Very Exciting Beef Salad were not tough, and there was enough to make eating the dish satisfying. Rocket leaves gave the dish a background peppery taste. A change of flavour and texture was provided by capsicum and red onion. The dressing had enough lemongrass to give it its characteristic flavour.

The chunks of roast pork in the Stir-fried Roast Pork were not tough and had the crisp crackling that we looked for. The green beans retained their texture and fried basil leaves imparted their distinctive taste to the dish. While the dry curry paste had a fair amount of heat, it should still be suitable for most tastes.

The restaurant had a cosy feel. Diners have the choice between indoor and outdoor seating. As it is quite popular, booking ahead is advised to ensure that you get a table when you visit.
