What's the biggest news on the Adelaide market scene? One of Adelaide's favourite markets, established for 10 years is moving to a new venue. And they not only have a new home but a new name. Who are they? Read on.
The old Gillies Street Market had been located at the Gillies St Primary School for a long time, but as most of the stallholder sites were outdoors, they did not offer too much weather protection. Finally they have found a new and permanent home. The market has moved to the Adelaide Showgrounds into the old brick dairy building. The new venue will provide more space for new stalls. And they will all be undercover.
The new name will be Gillies at the Grounds. This market is all about fashion and clothing. They have many local artisans who make some amazing fashion. There are also vintage clothing dealers with retro accessories such as bags and hats. I can't wait to see how it all comes together in the heritage building of the old dairy.
The first market will be held on Sunday 15th April from 10 am-4pm. To find the market, enter from the Leader St gates on foot. Ticketed Parking is via Rose Terrace, which is provided onsite. Or the easy way is to get the train to the new showgrounds train station and walk in.
