Gillberries at Dulwich
Gillberries at Dulwich

This breakfast/lunch place in a quiet corner of Dulwich has become an institution since owners Rick and Kylie Gill took it over around four years ago.

Gillberries, Dulwich ave Adelaide
Main entrance. Located in Dulwich ave, away from the busy Stuart rd intersection.

Everything on the menu is lovingly hand-made (except the bread). The breakfast menu is extensive, with a range of options including bacon and eggs, eggs benedict, baked beans, museli, French toast, fruit loaf or pancakes. There are also vegetarian, gluten free and kids options.

Inside. The modern, clean interior.

The standard lunch options are positively gourmet and range from cheddar soufflé, bruschetta, Thai beef salad, goats toast and Wagyu beef burger through to a range of delicious salads. Or baguettes are available with a tasty array of fillings. But that's not all. The Specials board was full of epicurean delights including pan fried scallops, pumpkin and ricotta tart, mushroom and spinach frittata or a Sri Lankan chicken curry.

I opted for the Hazelnut buttermilk pancakes for breakfast with berry compote and thick, double cream. I washed this down with a "zinger" from their excellent range of freshly squeezed juices. The wholemeal pancakes were so thick I was very full at the end.

My friend ordered the hearty vegetarian breakfast which she thoroughly enjoyed. Even the baked beans were house-made and often the breakfast meals come with home-made relish on the side.

There are a few dining options too; outside on the footpath, inside in the modern interior, out back under the covered roof area or in the secluded courtyard next to the vines.

You can dine outside on the footpath in this quiet neighbourhood.

If you have a sweet tooth there is a blackboard full of home-made desserts, cakes, slices, friands, tarts and biscuits to whet your appetite. And of course coffee, tea, affogato or home-made juices round off what is a spectacular gourmet menu!
