Gift Shopping at Mountain Gate

I love Christmas shopping, To me it's a time to spend lazily carefully choosing gifts for people I care about. I see something that takes my eye and I imemdiately think of that special person. I love the thought that they'll be as thrilled with my gift as I am in taking time to choose it.

What I don't like about Christmas shopping are the crowds. The frenetic hustle and bustle that accompanies the build up to Christmas in the large shopping centres, when people are always in a great hurry. Everyone seems to be in a tizz and in fact you see quite a few people become rude and impatient with other people who happen to be in the way.

So I decided to bypass Knox Ciy shopping Centre and Eastland Shopping centres this year and to seek out somewhere where I could take my time in enjoying the whole experience of looking, choosing and buying Christmas gifts. Not for one moment did I think I'd find just one shop where I could do all three - I was willing to try a few of the smaller little gift shops. There's a campaign at the moment called "Shop Small" - and I'm all for that. The big stores and shopping centres are getting bigger every day while the little storekeeper is struggling to make ends meet.

So here I am at the small but nicely set out shopping complex at Mountain Gate , on the corner of Ferrntree Gully Road and Burwood Highway, in Ferntree Gully. It's well designed with plenty of parking and has Coles and Woolworths supermarkets, chemists, newsagents, an op shop, jewellery shop (Precious Repairs, Shop 7, Telephone number: 9756 0011, which sells new jewellery as well as being one of the very best when it comes to repairs and upgrading), Mountain Communications (Shop 4, Telephone number: 9752 2422), bakeries, $2 shops and everything else you could possibly need, including coffee shops. Kim's Cafe and Bakehouse at Shop 23 (Phone number: 9758 5167) is well worth visiting.

I parked near Precious Repairs in order to have some special linking clasps fitted to a favourite pair of earrings, and after leaving the store, decided to look in the windows of a couple of nearby shops before walking down to Kim's for a spot of lunch and coffee.

Now I had seen Jezz Giftz, at Shop 9C Mountain Gate Shopping Centre, (Telephone number: 9758 6995) a number of times, walked past them on each occasion, and hadn't given a thought to going in to see what they may stock. I'm sorry it took me so long to do so, because I've missed out on experiencing a shop that is a gift buyer's delight; an Aladdin's Cave; a treasure chest.

You'll find gifts for every taste - from Grandma down to the newest baby, or friends who love modern and trendy gifts through to classic romantic gifts.
