Eucalyptus Camaldulensis are endemic to Australia and can often be seen along watercourses. These iconic river red gums provide shade in summer but their limbs do tend to fall without warning.

Believe it or not, Orroroo is home to and known for a giant 500-year-old gum tree which climbs six metres before the fork appears in its trunk. It also has a circumference of more than ten metres. How many people do you think is needed to form a circle around this tree?

The Giant Gum Tree can be seen at a park near Pekina Creek, just off Willowie Road in Orroroo. Signs will lead you to it from the main road. BBQ facilities and a shelter, as well as a large parking area, are available onsite for your convenience.

Now, just out of curiosity, could you please let us know if you've managed to find a river red gum of greater size than this one? Who knows, the tree you found might just be declared a giant-er gum tree one day!
