Giant Days Volume 8 - Book Review

As Esther, Susan and Daisy near the end of their second year at university their friendship, rock-solid up until now, is put to the test. Daisy is still head over heels in love with her girlfriend, Ingrid, who her housemates can't stand. Ingrid meanwhile, is a little ticked off with Daisy because she still hasn't come out to her grandmother.
Meanwhile, Esther becomes unexpectedly chummy with Emelia, McGraw's new girlfriend, who she previously wanted to "shoot into the space". She feels guilty about her new friendship, which she regards as a betrayal of Susan, but Susan is hiding an even bigger secret. It's hardly a spoiler at this point to say that her slinking off to 'Night Hospital' was a ruse to cover for her secret meetings with McGraw. I ship these two pretty hard, so I couldn't be happier for them, despite the unfortunate fallout their affair causes.
Unfortunately, the chain of events set off in this volume could spell the end for the trio sharing a home together. I suppose I will find out in volume 9.
Giant Days Volume 8 is not the strongest volume so far, since the plot is a less cohesive than in some of the previous books. However, the team of Allison and Sarin continue to deliver the fully realised characters and whimsically detailed art I have come to expect. With only 4 volumes to go I am going to be very sad to see this series end.
