One of the most famed romantic fantasy thriller movies of all time, Ghost, hits Melbourne's Regent Theatre early next year. Ghost The Musical is a live musical stage adaptation of the original blockbuster hit.



Ghost The Musical is set in modern day New York City. The timeless tale follows a young couple, Sam and Molly, who are mugged one night after a late night dinner. Sam is murdered in the incident, but his soul is unable to leave the world and he becomes a spirit. It becomes apparent that Sam is trapped as a ghost, and he can't move on due to Molly, who is in danger. With the help of a psychic Oda Mae, Sam tries to communicate with Molly, in an attempt to protect her.

The movie Ghost, directed by Jerry Zucker, starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Tony Goldwyn and Whoopi Goldberg. The blockbuster hit film received an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay (Bruce Joel Rubin's script), and Whoopi Goldberg won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Ghost was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Film in 1990.

Ghost The Musical features the original music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winners, Dave Stewart (half of the multi-Grammy Award-winning Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror and Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill). The script follows Academy Award winner Bruce Joel Rubin's on-screen story.



The cast of Ghost The Musical is directed by Matthew Warchus, also known for his role directing Matilda. Leading the choreography is Ashley Wallen, Kylie Minogue's personal choreographer.

Although Ghost The Musical has been seen by over one million people around the world, it is relatively new to the stage. The musical premiered in Manchester in 2011, before moving onto London's West End and New York's Broadway. To date, Ghost The Musical has been nominated for five Olivier Awards and three Tony Awards.
