Get on Your Bike are happy to either deliver your choice of bike to you, or you can order online or by phone and have one waiting for you at a Gold Coast destination that suits you. Get on Your Bike can set you up with a cruiser bike, tandem, mountain bike, children's bikes, tagalong bike, and even a tagalong trailer for bubby, or your pampered pooch. You can hire a bike for an hour, a half day, a full day, a few days, or by the week if you are holidaying on the coast and don't want the expense of hiring a car.
We picked up our bikes at the Broadwater Tourist Park in Southport and headed towards Surfers Paradise which was approximately a 6km ride. We had chosen cruiser bikes which are single geared. I've always ridden multi-geared bikes so I thought that the single geared bike seemed a bit hard to push and was quite stiff. I was later to find out that it was taken from the repair shed by mistake which explained why it started screeching and grinding about 4kms down the track.
Waiting for assistance
Our adventure came to a stop when the chain on my daughter's bike came off. We called the number on the bike and waited about 20 minutes for path-side assist to come to the rescue. My bike was replaced and the chain was quickly fixed on my daughter's bike. On our return we were compensated for the incident which we were very grateful for. It was much smoother sailing from then on. Lesson learnt; if the bike doesn't feel quite right, go back and get the staff to check it before proceeding too far. Also, make sure before you head off that you ask staff how to adjust the seat and use the brakes and bike chain to tie the bike up when you stop for a break. Bring a bottle of water and your mobile phone in case you need to call for assistance.
The ride along the beachside was picturesque. We stopped at the Surfers markets which began at 4pm. Riding the bikes through the markets is prohibited so we chained the bikes up with the chain supplied in the zip-up bag attached to the handle-bars and strolled through Surfers. The chain allows you the freedom to stop frequently so you can enjoy a picnic on the beach or at one of the many beautiful parks.
We were enjoying ourselves so much we decided to keep riding all the way to The Spit via the beach track and then looped back via the road as our legs were getting a bit tired by then. We rode for a good 20kms in about 3 hours all for the cost of $20 per bike. It's not only a good old-fashioned way to spend the day, but it's very affordable and enjoyable. It's true that exercising lifts your mood and helps you unwind and relax your mind. So, what are you waiting for? Get on Your Bike.
