Do you hate going to the gym? They're full of sweaty bodies, posers in mirrors, full changing rooms and membership fees that make you wince.
For those reasons I for one am not a fan, and I will do anything in my power to avoid heading to a gym.
So here are my favourite free fitness ideas for Brisbane City.
1. Cycle or run along the river - Make use of the fabulous scenery along the river and get out for a run or a cycle. There are a number of places to cross giving a few different distances depending on how energetic you are feeling. Try this Map my Ride map for a good length bike ride (36Km) or the Step Where website for a number of different runs.
2. Organised fitness classes - I've often seen groups of people practising yoga at South Bank and wondered what they were up to. Turns out they have free instructed classes throughout the year. Check the Visit South Bank website for more info.
3. Outdoor gym equipment - Recently I've discovered the free outdoor gym equipment next to the river at West End. It's just past Davies Park as you head out of the city along Riverside Drive. There are a number of different obstacles here each designed to get you moving. Check the Brisbane Council website for facilities in your area.
If you need to find other like minded people to train with in the city look on websites like Meetup.com they have regular activities in Brisbane organised by members online.
If you need that little extra push and don't mind spending some cash, join a bootcamp program like fitness4u.net. They have sessions for all abilities at $140 for new startes which includes 8 training sessions.
That's $17.50 a session to get fit, have fun and be in the great outdoors.
What are you waiting for Brisbane? Get out there and make use of this awesome city.
