Looking for a spot of inspiration on the weekend? Perhaps your new year's resolution was to hone in on a creative skill or to take a course for leisure. Here's a good spot to start looking; The NSW Writers' Centre offers a wide range of courses, workshops and seminars sure to inspire and intrigue writers of any level. Whether you're a novice who is looking for a place to start or a published writer looking for a boost of support and feedback from teachers and peers, you can benefit from trying out a course or workshop from the Centre.

, tucked away in Rozelle, offers a diverse range of courses to suit creative interests like writing fantasy literature or creating stories for children. There are courses available to help writers with the business side of things such as where to begin with getting your work published to using a blog as a literary and promotional tool. No matter how experienced a writer you are, or even if you wouldn't call yourself a writer, chances are there is a course out there waiting to trip your trigger and take you to next level, professionally or personally.

The Centre offers weekend courses that last from 6 hours to 6 weeks. Try a day course examining the art of comedy writing or immerse yourself in a 6 week course about non-fiction writing. Courses are taught by well-established journalists and authors who you might recognize from your favourite magazine or newspaper - you could even have the opportunity to learn from an author that you admire. Even if you don't recognize the teacher, you will be in good hands and will leave your course feeling inspired to put pen to paper.

If the idea of stepping into a classroom brings back haunting memories of school days, this is a great way to break that fear. The Centre is there is support you and your fellow students also enrolled in the course for support and likely have come into the situation open minded. Listening to others and sharing your own ideas is a great way to explore your thoughts and writing in a way you might not have considered before.

In addition to various courses, the Centre offers other forms of support and resources to students through festivals, mentorships, assessements on manuscripts and general advice. They exist to assist with writers no matter the level they are at. If you feel compelled to continue on with a writing project and value the peer review, there are a number of writing groups that meet at the Centre throughout the week, including Saturday. Though some of the groups are closed or only allow members by invitation, there are also some groups that welcome new members, of any experience. The benefit of a regularly scheduled writing group encourages stable and consistent practice, just like any skill.

Visit the NSW Writer Centre website to find out more about what's on at the Centre and the available resources offered. You can also sign up for the highly informative weekly enewsletter delivered by the Centre which is full of interesting information like author interviews, writing competitions, book reviews and upcoming course details.
