Tucked inside a corner of the Desert Botanical Garden, Gertrude's offers a beautiful desert setting and a fresh diverse menu. Located about ten miles east of downtown Phoenix, DBG is easily accessible from all areas of the valley. Gertrude's offers lunch and dinner every day and adds brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

You can choose between a modern open indoor area and the patio overlooking the desert landscape. The service is always prompt and friendly. Start with a refreshing berry-basil lemonade or dragon fruit limeade. They create their adult beverages based on the season and have many tasty options. I ordered the dragon fruit margarita and enjoyed the bright pink color as much as the flavor. I noticed many other pink drinks around the patio.


Their dishes contain local fresh ingredients and therefore change with the seasons. I ordered the green chili bacon cheeseburger with roasted fingerling potatoes. The waitress didn't flinch at all my requests to remove the chili sauce, pickles and onions and substitute a gluten-free bun. The meal was delicious and cooked to perfection. My husband decided on the arugula salad with walnuts, orange segments, and black pepper feta topped with pomegranate vinaigrette. Along with the fresh-baked bread and spiced whipped butter, this was plenty for a meal. Other options on the menu included duck enchiladas, shellfish jambalaya, and chorizo baked brie. There are many vegetarian and gluten-free options.


Dessert was difficult to pass up once we saw the options. We elected the chocolate torte with berry jam underneath and strawberries and white chocolate chips on top. The meal and atmosphere provided a wonderful night at the garden.
