I'm a keen hiker, world traveller & exercise enthusiast. It's no wonder that my wife Beck and I, collectively known as the Speed Hiking Couple, founded www.travelmademedoit.com - a hiking guide website.

Explore Gerringong Falls from an incredible lookout
The Southern Highlands area of NSW is packed full of breathtaking waterfalls. Probably the best waterfall in the area is Gerringong Falls. It's a roughly 180 metre, two-tier waterfall located in the gorgeous Budderoo National Park.

Despite its beauty, Gerringong Falls is actually one of the less visited waterfalls in the area. The main reason being, it's much harder to access than other Southern Highlands based waterfalls, such as Belmore, Carrington and Fitzroy Falls.

You may have heard that it's possible to reach the bottom of Gerringong Falls. Although the base of the waterfall looks amazing, scrambling down to it should only be attempted by highly experienced bushwalkers with know-how in navigating off-trail.

But don't worry, it's still possible to enjoy this waterfall without going to the bottom of the falls. We will explain how to find the best lookout for Gerringong Falls, which in itself, is an unforgettable experience.

How to find the best Gerringong Falls lookout

Starting from the Buderoo Track (Plateau) Car Park, you'll combine the Budderoo Track and Hersey Fire Trail to reach the incredible Gerringong Falls lookout. Both trails are fairly flat, wide and easy to follow; so, feel free to cycle or walk.

You'll follow the Budderoo Track for around 6km, at which point, you'll turn right onto the Hersey Fire Trail. After 3km or so on this trail, you'll reach Gerringong Creek.

To find the epic lookout, from the creek, turn left, and you'll find an overgrown, faint and narrow trail (if you've cycled, you'll need to ditch your bike for the time being!) After a short bushbash, with the creek to your right, you'll find the top of Gerringong Falls, with amazing views of the surrounding cliff faces.

At this point, turn left and continue to follow the faint trail. You'll be hiking away from the creek and adjacent to the cliff's edge; so, be careful. The trail then begins to veer right as you follow the rim of the plateau. This eventually takes you to an opening, where you'll see a flat rocky platform and an outcrop to your right. Congratulations, you have made it to the best Gerringong Falls lookout.

Enjoy the spectacular waterfall and cherish the moment, as not many others have seen this phenomenal waterfall in the Southern Highlands.

I have often been to Gerringong Falls. The rule I follow when walkimg near a cliff is not to walk closer than a body length in case you trip.
