Experience the night time magic

Not just an ordinary market but a festival event, the winter Christmas market at the German International School in Terrey Hills transforms the playgrounds and classrooms into a magical night time wonderland. Glowing light and sound parades, musical performances and a whole lot more are set to produce warm memories.

Your winter evenings here bring you the chance to stock up early on Christmas gifts with the markets selling everything from handmade ornaments and festive decorations to candles and homewares, wooden arts, craft and more, all illuminated by twinkling fairy lights. Furthermore, a second-hand book stall will also sell German books and games.

Add to this picture, the wafting smells of traditional German food and beverages and you'll be transported to wintertime in Germany without the burden of trudging through the snow. Pretzels, bratwurst and waffles will have your taste buds in overdrive whilst the Gluhwein (mulled red wine) will warm your soul.

Immerse yourself in more German culture at the event stage with some entertaining dance and ballet performances from GISS Dance AG and NB Dance Company, and music from students as well as singer Justine Bartha and the Nova Youth Orchestra.

A Scholastic Book Fair, Story Time, puppet theatre and face painting will also entice visitors, and as the sky's shade darkens, a procession of children will embark on a customary lantern walk. In fact, there are two walks each night at 6pm and 7.30pm and your children can participate too. Lanterns can be purchased at the market to contribute to the festive glow as children parade along singing both winter and lantern songs.

Afterwards, children can enjoy a disco (from 8.15pm) and, to warm up further, adults and children alike can cosy up to the open bonfire to toast marshmallows, drink hot chocolate and enjoy sugared almonds.

The German International School can be found one street back from Mona Vale Road on Myoora Road. Entry to this event is free with parking available for $5 at Terrey Hills Public School, only a 2 minute walk away.

So gather under the stars for this wonderful cultural insight from 5pm on the Friday and 4pm on the Saturday.
