The best Sunday market in South Australia fresh food galore
The Gepps Cross Treasure Market is one of THE go to places each Sunday in Adelaide and it is the biggest outdoor market in South Australia.

The market, in the location of the Gepps Cross drive in (yes there is still a functioning drive-in in Adelaide) is full of hundreds of stalls selling all types of products and fresh food. The fresh food section is what you first experience when entering the market. The vendors vary in nationality and culture and bring their special fresh produce with them.

I have just spent the last 14 years living in Cambodia and South East Asia and you can get everything at this market from those special herbs that make your dishes taste just right, to the specially prepared deserts and unique fresh fruit and vegetables often not seen in supermarkets. I've bought figs dried and fresh from a local grower, fruit that otherwise costs a fortune in the supermarkets, sacks of potatoes and boxes of zucchini to stock up the freezer ready for winter, arms full of fresh herbs and luxuriated in the copious samplings of fresh delicious fruit in season.

My last weeks adventure saw me picking up in season oranges, blood red grapefruit, seedless grapes and much, much more. You'll find producers from north and south of Adelaide converging on the market to sell their produce and buyers doing the same to buy and take home the best. Piping hot bread, SA made olive oil and salami, live herbs, vegetables and flowers to plant in the garden, freshly made deserts, cut flowers and on and on the list and the wonderful experience goes.

At one time in its earlier history the market was much more a trash and treasure market. That part of the market's allure has not gone. It's still there and save some time before or after buying all of your wonderful produce for some time to fossic through the trash and treasure. Cheap clothes, interesting and vintage items, tools, brassware, shoes, pots and pans, jewellery.

If you are a visitor to the market entry will cost you $1.50 at the gate (there are two gates on the east and west south side of the market). The market opens at 7am and continues into the early afternoon.

If you are a seller the gates open at 5am, you will be charged $25 for a car, van or ute. $35 for a car and trailer ($40 for a large trailer). A truck is charged $40 and large truck $50. Trestle hire will cost you $5 each with a $5 deposit. If you want to enquire further call 61883521377 between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Check out their website here. If you are peckish on your way home don't miss the opportunity to pick up a Vietnamese meat roll at Tammy's food truck just outside the east entrance before heading to your car.

Don't miss this wonderful, reliable and every Sunday experience. Save some money by buying straight from the truck and buy produce that will last longer and taste better. Go early to get the best of the best before it sells out or come late to take home a box or two of bargains.
