[ADVERT]Growing up in Frankston, I've come to appreciate both the man made elements as well as the abundant natural beauty of the city.

Whilst a two-tiered shopping centre takes up the heart of the city, natural beauty surrounds it, both in the form of its beaches and parks.

One such park is George Pentland Botanic Gardens (Location: Williams Streets, Frankston - Melway Ref: 102 F5), located on the fringes of Frankston South.

Personally, I can attest to many a BBQ in the park, followed by impromptu plays or an informal game of cricket, soccer or badminton that is if no one is up for hide and go seek or chase.

Finding a free table and electric BBQ can sometimes be a mission on public holidays, so come prepared for an old fashioned picnic a la blanket and basket style as there's plenty of lush green grass to make a temporary home.

The quiet corners that the park has to offer will especially impress those looking for some solitude from the domestic noises of the suburbs.

And for those with more athletic ambitions, the park offers a walking trail that's highly recommended - lest you miss out on the little jewels scattered around the park, like the picturesque Fern Gully Walk and snake trail art symbolic of aboriginal dream time.

Little ones need not fret either. The park hosts a playground on the eastern end as well as pond that's home to various types of birds always eager to interact with humans when bread is involved.

So if you're looking for a great day out with family and friends, to get your BBQ apron on, to relax, to be at one with nature or just get away from the hustle and bustle of Frankston city without spending much, George Pentland Gardens is for you!
