George Lucas: A Life – Book Review

George Lucas is the first comprehensive biography of the famous filmmaker behind the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies. Brian Jay Jones has thoroughly researched this time and it covers George's business philosophy and his incredible impact on modern film history.

The book is divided into three parts called: Hope, Empire and Return. The book covers his childhood and teenage years through to the current day.

The book isn't just about Star Wars but you may discover neat facts about the making of the series, like that it only premiered in 36 theatres. We get an insight into the man who was an early adopter of computer generated imagery and digital filming.

I enjoyed reading about how movies and movie-making have changed over the last few decades. We hear about George's involvement in Pixar and Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and THX sound. Then we learn about his decision to relinquish control of his empire and sell Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion.

George Lucas is a great biography for people interested in the film industry and Stars Wars fans.

George Lucas is available in paperback from your favourite bookseller.

About the author

Brian Jay Jones is the author of the New York Times bestselling Jim Henson: The Biography ('masterful' Kirkus) and Washington Irving: An American Original. Since 2010, he has been a Board member for Biographers International Organization, the world's largest organisation of professional biographers, and presently serves as its elected Vice President. Jones was nine years old when Star Wars was released in 1977 - which made him practically the film's target audience - and has been a fan of Lucas and his films ever since. He presently lives in Maryland with his wife and daughter and a very excitable dog who refuses to stay off the furniture
