A magnificent visual journey
George Gittoes On Being There Exhibition
Two Worlds in Harmony - Gittoes

George Gittoes has been travelling the world for over forty years. He has been mostly absorbed by the areas of conflict. Travelling far and wide from the killing fields of Cambodia, witnessing genocides and ethnic cleansings in Rwanda and Bosnia, bombs going off in Ireland, conflict along the borders of Pakistan and Afghanistan and the world trade centre disaster zone. George Gittoes On Being There is a personal journey of an artist brave enough to create in the face of danger and destruction.

Gina Sinozich was a local Croatian-Australian Casula based artist. Following the dissolution of Croatia, Gina and her family arrived in Australia after World War II. They made the voyage by boat from Istria. At the age of 70, Gina took up painting as a way of expressing the experiences in her life. Sadly, in June last year, Gina passed away. GINA is an exhibition that brings together works from Gina's artistic career to tell her personal story.

Kerry Toomey is a Gamilaroi woman from Pilliga, NSW. Her exhibition Munduhii (meaning 'shoes' in Gamilaraay, her language group) creates stories that wrap themselves around the feet, an essential part of each and every one. For Toomey, they represent her strong connection to Country and culture. Her art is inspired by stories of her family who grew up on the outskirts of Pilliga. Highlighting her style using emu feathers, quills and snakeskin that have been passed down to her.

Loss is an exhibition exploring the impact of leaving a homeland from other parts of the world and moving to Australia. It features artists with strong connections to Western Sydney, including Damon Amb, Miriam Cabello, Blak Douglas, Jagath Dheerasekara and Linda Sok. They comment, from their own experiences, on difficult topics including war, torture, stolen generation and offer personal insights into reconnecting with culture, home, family, and friends.

"These exhibitions all provide some distinctive and personal perspectives on a range of themes – from our response to the best and worst of the human condition in George Gittoes: On Being There to revealing the migrant experience in Loss, the documenting of an interesting life lived in GINA, and Kathy Toomey's visually stunning celebration of the stories of her ancestors in Munduhii," said CPAC Director Craig Donarski.

The CPAC now has Bellbird open for dining late on Friday and Saturday evenings. Why not pop in for a meal and enjoy the free exhibitions.

Please note though the exhibitions are free to enter, it is essential to book.
