Sun 28 May 2017

His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) launched the second annual Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ) Open Day, by planting the rarest banksia in the world, Banksia vincentia. Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand Inc is the chief body representing the interests of botanic gardens in Australia and New Zealand.

With over 75 botanic gardens, arboreta and gardens taking part in 2016, they're expecting 2017 Open Day to be bigger and better. Every state and territory in Australia will be represented, and gardens on both the North and South Island in New Zealand will be taking part on this Open Day event, which will be held on the last Sunday in May 2017. The theme for 2017 is "Botanic Gardens Conserving Plants - Our Lives Depend On It." With this Open Day, BGANZ hopes it will help raising awareness of the conservation efforts of gardens across Australia and New Zealand, as well as encourage people to visit their local botanic gardens.

George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens NT will be participating in the BGANZ Open Day on Sunday 28 May from 10.00am to 2.00pm. George Brown Darwin Botanic Garden is located at the corner of Gardens Rd and Gilruth Avenue, Darwin.

It includes the launch of new interactive Tree Walk (official launch will be at 10.30am) and free "Come and Try Range of Walks" by Walk Darwin at 10.15am, 11.00am, 11.45am, 12.30pm and 1.00pm. Snakebean Team Stall will help you with a guided walk to the community garden at 10.00am and 11.00am.
