If, like me, you devour crime novels with all the gusto of an alcoholic let loose during happy hour, you probably have a few questions lurking in the back of your mind.

Such as: Where do my favourite authors come up with their dark inspiration? Why do they set stories in particular locales? How do they tackle the formidable task of historical research?

If you're more a reader of romance novels, you're probably wondering about other things. Like: Does my favourite writer base her characters on past or present love interests? Does she enjoy writing sex scenes (and how much does she enjoy it)? How is it that simple words on paper can make me laugh or cry?

which is taking place at the State Library of Queensland from 11-13 October is the perfect place to have all your questions answered.

It's described as a three-day convention for Australian readers and writers 'with a penchant for the types of fiction that get relegated to their own corner of the bookstore'.

Fans and professionals working within genres including romance, mystery, science fiction, crime, fantasy, horror, thrillers, young adult and more, will be able to eyeball some big names, get their books signed, or even learn more about the writing process itself.

Organisers claim genre fiction often gets overlooked at Australian literary festivals. However, they add, it's the source of many of our most enduring stories and it bridges media such as film, games, and comic books in addition to fiction.

Best-selling Irish crime novelist John Connolly is one of the international authors who'll be participating in panel and 'in conversation' sessions to discuss his writing process and his favourite genre works.

Also on the line-up is Chuck Wendig who has not only written novels but has contributed more than two million words to the game industry and was the developer of the popular Hunter: The Vigil game line (White Wolf Game Studios / CCP).

Australian guests include thriller author Kathryn Fox, novelist and columnist John Birmingham, multi-talented Anita Heiss, romance writer Anne Gracie and editor and writer Kate Cuthbert.

Online registrations will be taken until October 8, after which time tickets will be available at the door.
