I'm a freelance writer who lives on the Bellarine Peninsula. I enjoy finding new things to see and do in the beautiful area that I live in. I'm also a booklover- see my reviews at acomfychair.com/profile/52/
You don't have to be a geologist, rock aficionado, or even a jeweller to appreciate the colours, shapes and general prettiness of some of nature's most beautiful physical offerings - gems, crystals and fossils that have formed over hundreds of years. Found all over the world, and in a variety of colours, textures and sizes, these stones and minerals are usually fascinating to look at, as well as aesthetically appealing to a majority of people. The most beautiful are often turned into homewares (doorstops, sculptures or table inlays for example), or pieces of jewellery. There are also groups of mutually interested people who hold meetings to discuss unique specimens and compare collections. One such group is the Geelong Gem and Mineral Club, who, each year, invite the general public to join them in celebrating their collections and all that their hobby has to offer.
The annual Gem, Crystal & Jewellery Show will be held in a new location this year - over the last few years, the event was held in the Geelong suburb of Hamlyn Heights; this year the Show will be held at Centenary Hall in Norlane. Featuring a vast collection of sparkling and magnificent crystals and gems, as well as fossils and minerals, this Show is sure to appeal to most people who have an interest in nature's treasures. With a Fluorescent Mineral Display exhibiting, as well as demonstrations from artisans in silver-smithing, glass-fusing and gem faceting, there will be plenty to keep you fascinated on the day. There will also be beads and findings available for purchase (if you're interested in jewellery making), as well as ready-made jewellery, unique gifts and (of course) a variety of gems, crystals and fossils which you can add to your collection. Enter the raffle, see how you go with a lucky dip prize, and (for a minimal cost) enjoy tea, coffee, a light lunch or refreshments while you view the displays.

Lovers of minerals, gems, jewellery and allied crafts are sure to enjoy the offerings on display at this year's Gem, Crystal & Jewellery Show.
There are lots of books on the subject of minerals, crystals and gems but its always better to see them in real life
