The gelato craze has hit Parramatta, with the opening of the latest Gelato Messina. With much fanfare the Gelato Messina shop opened at the corner of Church and Phillip Street. It replaced Wow Cow which did not last very long in that location so it will be interesting to see how long Gelato Messina will stick around.
The Gelato Cakes look amazing (and so do the prices). I'm not sure you could justify the prices advertised unless you were a super gelato fan. But the pictures do look impressive so if you are out to impress they would surely be a hit.
Lunchtime crowds differed on the occasions I've been. One time it was dead quiet and the other time it was packed (mostly people asking to sample flavours).
We ordered a Miso Plate which resulted in 5 scoops of ice cream so we could try the different flavours – our pick were the Dulce de Leche, Poached Fig in Marsala, Salted Caramel and White Chocolate, Yoghurt Berry and Pandan and Coconut. The servings for the Miso Plate were small (barely a full scoop) but for $12 the price was good to be able to try a few flavours.
The downside of the place is the lack of seating. They only offer outdoor seating with small stools as tables and stools as chairs (not the most stable as they are quite light so easily knocked over). With very limited seating it's more an 'eat and run' kind of place.
