A new take on an ice-cream sandwich

Love the sweet pastry taste of brioche and also enjoy the smooth creaminess of gelato? Northbridge's Chicho Gelato have decided to combine the two to create gelato con brioche.

Before you get your mouth around this indulgent dessert, you'll have to make the difficult decision of which gelato to fill your sweet toasted bun. Chicho Gelato has so many house-made tasty flavours to choose from.

With flavours such green tea and caramelised white chocolate, PB & J and mint chocolate brownie, you might as well taste a few just for fun.

We went with the smokey Mexican chocolate. Also added into the middle of the bun was a yummy chocolate sauce.

Once toasted the sauce took on a more solid form similar to my childhood favourite — Magic Ice — and the spiciness of the Mexican chocolate gelato was contained a little, thanks to the bun.

Bringing the two sweet treats together resulted in a dessert more refreshing than a cream filled doughnut, far superior to the average jaffle and overall, pretty darn good!

You too can try the taste sensation of gelato con brioche at Chicho Gelato on William Street, Northbridge for $10.

Or for traditionalists, you can always go a cone instead.
