School Holidays come around so quickly. What will you do with the children? There are lots of activities on, in and around Geelong. You can head to the beach, or take the children to some of the parks around Geelong. There are also other activities like AmazeNThings, SupaTramp, The Park, and Rollerway.

Read on, all those parents who are listening to their children say "we're bored, what are we going to do?" as I review some of the activities mentioned above. There are also shopping centres which are offering school holiday activities during the daytime. There really is plenty to do to entertain your children.

The Park - Geelong

Geelong Indoor Skatepark

The Park is the Ultimate World Class Indoor Skatepark. The Park is a locally owned and operated skatepark. It is home to the largest indoor skatepark in Australia. It has the largest indoor Vertical Ramp outside of the USA.

The Park was designed to be Australia's mecca of skateboarding and action sports, including BMX, scooters and inline skating. It has attracted national and international attention.

Some of the highlights of The Park are the 3 foot high children's ramp, a 40 foot wide mini ramp with pool coping, a 90 foot Vert ramp with kickers and offsets, a concrete street course, and the only indoor mini mega ramp in the country.

There is a fully stocked skate shop which sells parts, or does repairs and offers friendly advice. The skate shop also hires and sells skateboards, scooters, helmets and safety gear. Gift vouchers are available from the skate shop. There is an onsite café that sells a range of hot and cold food and drinks.

The Vert

The Vert is the biggest and highest vert ramp in Australia. This ramp will make you want to learn how to skate Vert ramps. Normally only seen in the USA for Pro Skaters, Australia now has it's own Vert ramp.

There is a 5.5metre high jersey bank barrier with pool coping, that has a 4.8metre extension and kick into it. On the other end of the Vert ramp is a 4.8metre Quarter Pipe offset and a bowled elbow.

This ramp is an expert ramp and you must wear a helmet to ride.

Fairy Park

Fairy Park is a piece of my own childhood history. We used to love going to Fairy Park with our parents when we were little. The whole Park was coin operated when I went there as a child. Now you can go to any of the 22 animated scenes and just press the button to hear some of the fairy tales being told.

The 22 animated scenes are housed in castles, cottages and caves, and are complimented by digitised sounds and lighting. Some of the fairy tale characters you can see include: Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and more. You can walk from house to castle to cave along winding paths. It is a very pretty park with lots of action going on in the fairy tale homes and castles.

There is a medieval park called Camelot Playground (it wasn't there when I was little). It has secret passages, towers to climb and your children can meet mystical creatures like Aladdin and Sinbad.

There is also one of Australia's largest collections of rare Markilin (gauge 1) model trains on display.

At the summit of Fairy Park you can take in the views of Mt Anakie's extinct volcano and you'll be able to see a panoramic view of the land around Fairy Park.

There are picnic grounds and electric barbecues available, and the kiosk is open weekends and holidays. Fairy Park is open most days between 10.00am and 5.00pm. (Please check the website for further details about opening hours.)

Admission is $8.00 for children and $16.00 for adults.
