The (Returned & Services League)

As it's ANZAC Day (April 25th) today I want to highlight the wonderful services that the does for veterans and their families.

The is situated in Barwon Heads Road, Belmont, not far from KMart Belmont and the Belmont Market.

At The there is a Bistro that has a large choice of food available on their menu, from Chicken Parmigiana to Roasts. They cater for Gluten Free diets, and they have a great Children's Menu.

The also has a Bowls Club. Come along and play Pennant or come for a game of Social Bowls, bowling practice or a game of Barefoot Bowling.

If you want to join the Bowls Club and would like more information please contact the RSL Bowls Club Office on 5241 1809

But what else does The do?

The Welfare Services are here to help all Veterans within the Geelong community.

When you buy a badge from the Anzac Day and Remembrance Day Appeals, you might wonder where the money goes to. In Geelong, 50% of all money raised by The is kept by the sub-branch, the other 50% is sent to RSL Headquarters for their welfare needs. ALL money that is raised forms part of the Welfare and Patriotic Fund that is strictly governed and monitored.

Check out the website for the amount of money raised during 2013 and how that money was used. You will be surprised how The uses your kind donations. It is good to see that The supports our returned soldiers, their families, and soldiers who are currently serving overseas.

Welfare & Patriotic Funds also covered such things as:

Medical aides and equipment
Home maintenance
Household expenses
Outings for the aged and socially isolated and the provision of their bus

Just to name a few of the things the Welfare and Patriotic Funds are used for.

So the next time you buy a badge, know that YOU are helping to support the Veterans in our Community.

Volunteer We need YOU!

The is currently looking for Volunteers for the following positions:

Home & Hospital Visitor:

Volunteers are asked to visit members of the veteran community who may be a bit isolated. As a Volunteer you may be asked to visit a person regularly over a cup of tea, or you might be asked to pick up some milk on your way over. Maybe you'll be asked to hang out a load of washing for the person while you're visiting.

The RSL will formally introduce you to the person you are visiting, and there are requirements for anybody interested in becoming a volunteer for the RSL, including a Police Check.

For further information on these Volunteer positions contact Toni Podbury on 0438 062 817 or at [email protected]
also provides live Jazz every Sunday afternoon from 5.30 – 8.30pm. There is also plenty of free car parking available at the facility. Come along, eat a lovely meal and enjoy a dance. See you there!
