Part Three - Geelong Performing Art Centre (GPAC)**

Geelong Performing Art Centre (GPAC) - in this review I intend to highlight a few upcoming performances, and more importantly, I aim to lift GPAC up into the limelight so that people can see what a wonderful performing arts centre Geelong has.

Home is where the art is...and in Geelong there is a a great art, dance, and performance movement. Geelong is well known for art, community, outstanding spaces and people, and also for its artistic energy.

Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) opened in 1981, with performing arts, functions, and events on offer. It was seen that there was a need for a high quality facility that would benefit local artists and audiences. GPAC has over nine spaces, two theatres, four conference and event spaces, a restaurant and a cafe.

GPAC is a well utilised facility which provides a wide range of performances and events, as well as an opportunity for participation in the performing arts.

GPAC is part of a group of state owned cultural agencies which includes the Victorian Arts Centre, Museum Victoria, National Gallery of Victoria, State Library of Victoria, Australian Centre for Moving Image and Film Victoria.

Without rewriting the whole GPAC website, below is a small taste of some of the events that are on at GPAC.

Dance festival returns with a splash!

During the July school holidays in Geelong, the annual Splash!Dance Festival will be held at GPAC. The Festival provides plenty of dance fun for the whole family and includes performances and workshops.

This event is organised by Geelong Dance Network Inc. with support from GPAC and the City of Greater Geelong. The Festival program aims to inspire dancers and dance enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.

This year, in 2014, the Splash!Dance Festival includes the Australian Choreographic Competition which will be held in The Playhouse at GPAC on Saturday July 5.

The highlight of the 2014 Splash!Dance Festival for the region's dancers is the showcases. The splash!dance Junior Showcase and the Geelong Dance Showcaseperformances will be staged in GPAC's Playhouse Theatre on Sunday July 6th.

The Mini Movers class for 4 -7 year olds will be held in the Alcoa Studios on Friday July 4th at 2.00 pm. The session concludes with a performance for parents.

Tickets for the Australian Choreographic Competition, Showcase Concerts and Mini Movers are available at GPAC Box Office on 5225 1200 or online at www.gpac.org.au
GPAC's Deakin University Theatre Season

The 2014 season of GPAC's Deakin University Theatre Season brings together eight productions that will make you laugh, gasp and even shed tears - possibly all the same time. GPAC's 2014 Deakin University Theatre Season is a year of great drama and entertainment.

Watch The Importance of Being Earnest , classic comic theatre or come and watch a new work called Little Bird. Come and see Circus Oz! for great family entertainment, or watch a heart warming outback adventure production and a new take on Big Brother.

You can become a season ticket holder and enjoy savings of up to 20 per cent.

Little Bird - a taster
Do you think a boy bird can sing a girl bird's song? Little Bird looks at the journey of a young boy, Wren, from his parents' isolated cottage all the way to the lights of the big city.

Drawing upon fable, mythology and song to create a compelling dramatic and musical journey, Little Bird will leave you transported, uplifted and with tears in your eyes.
Circus Oz 2014
The thrilling new show from Circus Oz draws inspiration from the pre-digital, analog world and the explosion of options, data and ideas.
